History of Tattoo removal – Laser tattoo removal Melbourne

History of Tattoo removal – Laser tattoo removal Melbourne

Tattoos are documented as first appearing about 5000 years ago and the want to remove them, has probably existed just as long. Early attempts to remove tattoos included sanding, cutting, and burning of the skin, which obviously left scarring. These removal techniques were replaced by surgery, dermabrasions, salabrasions, and C02 lasers, which still left scarring and could not differentiate tattoo colours.

Lasers – Laser tattoo removal Melbourne

The advent of Q-switched lasers in the early 1990’s permitted the removal of darker tattoo inks. Very high powered Q-switched lasers, developed in the late 1990’s, were capable of removing multiple tattoo inks. The laser uses an intense beam of light and sound to break up ink and remove and lighten the tattoo, without harming the surrounding healthy skin cells. The light energy is delivered in a nanosecond burst.

Laser tattoo removal is the current treatment of choice for its safety, comfort and efficacy. The laser directly targets the tattoo pigment with short bursts of high-intensity light, but spares surrounding skin. Depending on the size of your tattoo, treatment times vary from about 1 to 20 minutes, with usually downtime. Treatments are every 6 weeks to allow time for the natural removal of the ink. You will see results, soon after your first treatment.
